AMIA

Here is my latest for The New York Times on a deal struck between Argentina and Iran to investigate the bombing of  a Buenos Aires Jewish community center in 1994. A suicide bomber drove a car full of explosives, killing 85 and wounding some 300 others.  The accord, signed in Ethiopia on the sidelines of a meeting of the African Union, concluded several rounds of talks between Argentina’s foreign minister, Héctor Timerman, and his Iranian counterpart, Ali Akbar Salehi. President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, who spoke at last year's United Nations General Assembly meetings of Argentina's commitment to working with Iran to resolve the AMIA case, called the agreement "historic." Iran has refused to comply with international arrest warrants for nine suspects, including a former president and defense minister. Read my analysis of Argentina and Iran's growing trade ties amid the two countries' international economic restrictions in the Christian Science Monitor.
