So long, Miami: The Magic City's built history takes another hit

Newspaper archive
Americans have a fairly short built history. Cities here build on the ashes of other cities, other peoples or civilizations, using their pyramidal stone for cathedrals or, in Miami, a burial ground as the site of a first-class resort. An advertisement for the Doors' concert at the Dinner Key Auditorium in 1969, the building was later converted into the Coconut Grove Convention Center. Amid a fire sale of "Burn Notice" relics, demolition of the USA Networks' show's bulky candy-cane colored headquarters began. Politicians promise the site on Biscayne Bay will be used as a public park.
