JFK

The emergency room unit at the JFK Hospital was relatively quiet on a Saturday evening. They inspected L, who had an incision in her foot. They wheeled her into a room with two examination beds, one partially covered by a blue sheet. It resembled a storage room. An apparent nurse in an orange t-shirt walked in and out with handfuls of gauze. Cockroaches crossed the floor. We heard her ask for more anesthesia. On the floor of the clinic were burn victims, people with their legs in a sling. They decided just to sew her up and send her off, rather than look for a bed.  The doctors we called said yes, she should be fine.
